The Santa Maria is a concoction created by David. He was just messing around with different liquors, and mixed spiced rum with gold tequila. He added a dash of vermouth, shook it, and put it in a cocktail glass. He decided that with this concoction, an orange slice would do wonderfully for the garnish.
Originally made with Captain Morgan's Original, you can make it with Bacardi or any other spiced rum. Also, for the color to be right, tequila anejo, or gold tequila should be used.
This is a good drink for a Columbus Day party. You may ask, "Who in the world throws a Columbus day party?" Well, it's just an excuse to throw a bash. (Like anyone needs a reason.)
Remember, the Santa Maria is a strong drink, so sip, don't gulp.
